Description

Under general supervision, the Wellness and Recovery Coach provide group and individual coaching services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment. Using a strengths-based and person-centered approach, the Wellness Coach assists clients in developing practical life skills, improving emotional wellness, increasing independence, and achieving personal recovery goals. The Wellness Coach works collaboratively with clinical staff and community support to promote stability, engagement in treatment, and overall quality of life.

Examples of groups and individual services offered that facilitate client's decision making abilities in the areas of self-care, illness management, life work, and community participation include learning about alcohol and drugs, self-esteem, money management, health, current events, pre-vocational activities, diagnoses, medication and symptoms, anger management, phobias, stress, anxiety, relaxation, developing leisure, social skills, wellness, independent living, and coping skills.

Job Responsibilities and Performance Standards

Core Support & Recovery Services

  • Provide individual and group coaching and support focused on mental health, substance use recovery, coping skills, life skills, wellness, emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, and community integration.
  • Assist clients with developing and achieving individualized goals related to employment, education, housing, daily living, social skills, and overall wellness.
  • Support participants in identifying strengths, setting self-directed recovery goals, and strengthening independence, communication, coping, and socialization skills.
  • Assist with development, implementation, and ongoing use of Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP) and other recovery tools.
  • Promote a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered approach in all interactions.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that encourages participation and engagement.

Recovery Planning, Skill Building & Community Integration

  • Support development of coping strategies, healthy routines, problem-solving skills, and independent living skills.
  • Promote community inclusion, social connection, and engagement in natural and recovery supports.
  • Encourage participant choice, self-determination, and voice across behavioral health and community systems.
  • Provide encouragement, accountability, and motivation to help clients remain engaged in treatment and recovery services.
  • Conduct skill-building activities related to communication, budgeting, time management, stress management, and independent living.

Advocacy, Engagement & System Collaboration

  • Advocate alongside participants to support autonomy, recovery goals, and system navigation.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and collaborate with clinicians, case managers, nurses, and other providers.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and uphold confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies
  • Support participants in recognizing progress and celebrating recovery milestones and achievements

Crisis Awareness, Documentation & Compliance

  • Recognize signs of crisis, relapses, or safety concerns and promptly communicate with clinical staff or supervisors while maintaining peer support role integrity.
  • Assist with crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with agency, Medicaid, CCBHC, and HIPAA requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in a social service-related position OR two years at an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in a social service-related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, mental health, nursing, education, or a related field and one (1) year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) work experience in social services delivery (case management, outreach, prevention/education, etc.)
