Job Description

Position Summary The Department of Campus Recreation is located in the Division of Student Affairs, offering fitness, aquatics, informal recreation, and well‑being education. The Department provides a variety of programs, services and events that engage students and others in the Troy University community in healthy lifestyle behaviors. With Health and Wellness as a major theme for the University’s strategic plan, the Department is expected to provide opportunities that enhance student success. Under the supervision of the Associate Dean of Student Services, the Coordinator of Competitive Sports will supervise 15+ student staff and a graduate assistant in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive competitive sports program. This position provides student development that reinforces and enhances classroom and academic learning through the application of related theories and employee skills. Responsibilities Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the intramural sports program, including marketing, league scheduling, payroll, and human resource functions for student staff. Develop policies, procedures, and sport‑specific rules related to intramural sports. Maintain records of league standings, sportsmanship, and participation rates. Provide on‑site training and evaluation of student staff. Manage disciplinary proceedings and serve as primary risk manager for areas of direct supervision. Assist with design and scheduling of the intramural calendar of events. Manage staffing for club sport practices and events. Develop, plan, and budget for the introduction and implementation of summer leagues and events. Assist with implementation of departmental and divisional summer programs. Assist with managing existing and developing new collaborative programming in and outside the Department of Campus Recreation. Coordinate required field maintenance and painting; monitor and maintain equipment conditions and inventory levels; ensure participant safety by monitoring environmental conditions. Serve on departmental and university committees; maintain a non‑standard work schedule (during fall & spring semesters) with occasional evenings, weekends, and university breaks; perform other related duties as assigned. Working Conditions Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility. Hours: Non‑standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. Physical demands: occasional lifting of 10 lbs or greater; long periods of standing and running; physical fitness required. Supervisory responsibility: supervises 15+ student staff and a graduate assistant. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Recreation, or related field. Previous experience in the promotion, design, development, and administration of a collegiate campus recreation or city recreational competitive sports program. Valid driver’s license. American Red Cross First Aid/AED/CPR certification or ability to obtain. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated experience leading sports officials training, including flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, and softball; some knowledge of Esports. Experience officiating at an extramural, interscholastic, or intercollegiate level(s). Demonstrated budgeting experience. Current involvement in professional organizations such as NIRSA, NFHS, ARPA, NRPA, or NASO. Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Office and recreation management software. #J-18808-Ljbffr
