The purpose of this position is to preserve safe building conditions by ensuring the quality and integrity of residential and commercial buildings. This is accomplished by inspecting buildings and enforcing code standards, regulations and ordinances. Other duties may include examining plans and specifications, preparing reports, providing information and assistance to contractors, builders and citizens, resolving concerns and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees. Six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Two years of experience in code enforcement, building inspections, building maintenance, plumbing, or other similar work. Must obtain certification/licensing from the following within one year of starting employment as a condition of continued employment: the International Code Council Energy Code Inspector (ICC); and plumbing inspector’s license from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
