Title AGRICULTURAL TECHNICIAN III (SEASONAL) Salary $20.54 – $23.36 per hour. Job Summary Under the direction of the Agriculture Program Supervisor I and guidance from the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the incumbent independently performs the most complex, varied, and responsible duties of a pest detection Agricultural Technician III. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and directing the work of a small crew for early detection of Asian Defoliating Moth (ADM) at high‑risk California deep‑water port sites, executing a moth delimitation program, deploying and servicing a variety of insect traps, surveying designated areas for host trees and trap sites, documenting work completed, identifying suspect target insects, interacting with the public, assisting in the training of newly hired trappers, leading fruit removal, and performing insect/disease surveys for emergency eradication of targeted pests. The incumbent also oversees treatment activities, prepares written reports, performs quality control inspections for treatment‑survey trapping programs, and leads detection, delimitation, and eradication assignments for A‑rated agricultural pest insects such as the Mediterranean fruit fly, Mexican fruit fly, gypsy moth, and others. Work Environment Work is primarily conducted outdoors in a variety of weather and temperature conditions. The role involves alternation between bright sunlight and shade, variable noise levels, and terrain ranging from smooth to unstable. Each trap type uses a specific chemical insect lure and some lures contain small amounts of pesticides. The position may require driving, exiting, and re‑entering a trapping vehicle multiple times during the workday and working pre‑dawn, after 6:00 p.m., weekends, overtime, or split shifts. Minimum Requirements Valid California Driver's License (CDL) – provide CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions on application.
